The 5-Point Tip Sheet for Hiring a Social Media Agency

So you want to hire an advertising agency to run your social media campaigns but don’t know where to begin, what questions to ask, and what to expect. Well, you’ve come to the right place because I’m about to tell you exactly how to get what you want out of social media for your business.

Every ad agency defines themselves as expert, so how do you know what to look for? Here are the most important questions to ask when choosing a social media agency for you business.

• What’s your process for content creation? First things first: When you think about social media, you think about your brand’s voice being amplified through the content posted on your social platforms for both your current and prospective customers.

You should ask the agency how they plan to execute the process of writing content for your business. Their answer should involve how they plan to develop and keep your brand’s voice intact, stay up-to-date on current industry trends, and keep your content relevant to your target audience.

• Will my business have a presence on every social platform out there? There are a lot of social platforms out there, but not every one is right for your brand. For instance, while it makes sense for a clothing store or a restaurant to have a Pinterest account, it doesn’t necessarily make sense for an automotive dealership to have one.

You need to ask agencies about their strategies for choosing the best platforms for your business and how they’ll avoid social spam across those platforms.

• How will you measure progress and success? Reporting is important in the advertising world. You need to ask your potential agency how often they report, if they would be flexible if you want frequent reports, what tools they use to gather data, and what to expect when receiving the report (e.g., will the agency be presenting the information or will you be responsible for reviewing it on your own?).

You need to find an agency that will eloquently and in layman’s terms show you how they’re measuring your success week after week, month after month, and year after year and also explain how they’re continuing to grow your fan base and customer satisfaction.

• How much will it cost to run social media campaigns and advertisements? Ask the social media agency you’re considering, what their plans are to keep your budget in mind while still generating the results you need to meet your objectives. Some questions that arise in this include, how will they allocate your budget to make sure your social media presence is at an all-time high and how will they work within your budget and get the most exposure possible?
